"Why Isn't Mexico Rich?"
My translation of Gordon H. Hanson’s article is the cover feature this month of Mexican magazine Nexos. Professor Hanson is director of the Center on Emerging and Pacific Economies and professor of economics at UC San Diego.

Benjamin—History and the State of Exception (Harper's Magazine)
Benjamin did write about Mexican ruins, but he could not have guessed the current state of the country. I had just tweeted this when this came into my inbox…
This article I wrote was photocopied and later scanned and kindly emailed to me by Rolando Aguilera, a student writing his MA dissertation on Mexican comics at the Visual Arts School, National Autonomous University of Mexico (Academia de San Carlos). This was published first in the comics supplement of national Mexican daily La Jornada and republished as seen here in the seminal, now-extinct Mexican comics magazine Gallito Cómics. It was circa the mid nineties… anyone out there knows exactly when? Will be appreciated! It’s now prehistory to me…
[yes, that “Gay Groth” typo has haunted me ever since..! ]
