About Ernesto

[Yes, that’s me! panel from La Perdida ©2006 Jessica Abel.]

I am a scholar, poet, translator, editor and curator. Recently I’ve been focused on studying the relationships between technologies and multi-modal storytelling and the development of good practices in the creation and use of web-based tools for arts and humanities research.

My interest in comics led me to pursue a PhD in Information Studies at University College London, researching the impact of analog and digital technologies on comics. I debate the manner in which theories of materiality illuminate the media-specificity of comics, webcomics, mobile comics apps, and how comic book culture fits within current debates about the future of the book.

I am passionate about practical and theoretical issues around the effects of digital technology on humanities research. I initiated and co-organised the formation of The Comics Grid, a web-based international collaboratory of comics scholars.

I do a bunch of other things. To find out more about me you can start here.
